The Tolt River is located in the US state of Washington in the western foothills of the Cascade Range . The river begins at the confluence of the North and South Fork Tolt Rivers. It mostly flows southwest and then flows into the Snoqualmie River near Carnation . The catchment area of the Tolt River is part of the larger catchment area of the Snohomish River , or the Puget Sound . The name "Tolt" comes from the Lushootseed village name / túlq / .
The South Fork Snohomish River provides drinking water for Seattle residents .
