Tomás Aurelio Gil Martínez (born May 23, 1977 in Caracas ) is a former Venezuelan cyclist who was active on the track and the road .

Career

In 1998, Tomás Gil was part of the Venezuelan four-man track who won the silver medal in the team pursuit at the Central America and Caribbean Games . Four years later the team had the same success with Gil; together with Miguel Ubeto he also won the bronze medal in the two-man team driving . At the Pan-American Championships in 2004, he and his team won the silver medal in the team pursuit.

After that, Gil devoted himself more to road cycling. His greatest successes in this discipline include the overall victory of the Vuelta a Venezuela in 2010 and five Venezuelan championship titles, including four in the individual time trial and one in the road race . In 2012 Tomás Gil started at the Olympic Games in London , where he finished 70th in the road race and 33rd in the individual time trial. In the same year he received his first contract with a Professional Continental Team , the Italian-Venezuelan team Androni Giocattoli-Venezuela , for which he participated in the 2013 Giro d'Italia , which he was unable to finish.

At the end of the 2016 season, Gil ended his racing career.
