Thomas Dwyer (Tom) Bass (born June 6, 1916 in Lithgow , New South Wales , Australia - † February 26, 2010 ) was an Australian sculptor and painter.

life and work

Bass was trained at the Dattilo Rubbo Art School and, with an interruption as a result of World War II, studied at the National Art School in Canberra until 1948 . In 1974 he founded his own training center, the Tom Bass Sculpture School in Sydney .

In 1988 he was honored by the Order of Australia (OAM). In 2003 he converted his school into a non-profit organization. In 2006 a retrospective of Tom Bass's work was exhibited at the Sydney Opera House and on April 6, 2009 he was awarded an honorary Doctor of Visual Arts by the Sydney College of the Arts .
