Tom Cooper (Author)

Tom Cooper (* 1970 in Vienna ) is an Austrian author , analyst, investigative journalist, and illustrator on military aviation.

Life

After a career in the global transportation business - during which he traveled extensively in Europe and the Middle East - he became an investigative journalist and illustrator for specialized military aviation magazines. He focuses on smaller, little-known air forces and air wars, especially in the Middle East and Africa. Their experiences and reports can be found in his books and articles.

Cooper drew attention to himself in the late 1990s through his online publications on the website ACIG (Air Combat Information Group, formerly ACIG.org, since 2013: ACIG.info). His first three books - Iran-Iraq War in the Air, 1980–1988 , Iranian F-4 Phantom II Units in Combat and Iranian F-14 Tomcat Units in Combat - offer an exclusive insight into the operations of the Iranian Air Force during the First Gulf War ( 1980-1988) . Although they found little interest in the German-speaking world, they caused a wave of further publications in Iran and Iraq, and received a lot of attention in the USA. Two more important book series followed: African MiGs (two volumes) and Arab MiGs (six volumes) which provide a unique insight into the operational history of the MiG and Sukhoi fighter-bombers in 30 different countries in Africa and the Middle East.
