Tom Murphy (athlete)

Tom Murphy (actually Thomas Joseph Murphy; born November 21, 1935 in Brooklyn ) is a former American middle -distance runner who specialized in the 800-meter distance .

In 1959 he won the Pan American Games in Chicago , and in 1960 he reached the semifinals of the Olympic Games in Rome .

In 1959 he was US champion over 800 m and 1960 US indoor champion over 600 yards .

He set his personal best of 1: 46.7 minutes on July 2, 1960 in Palo Alto .
