Thomas Steven "Tom" Platz , (born June 26, 1955 in Fort Sill , Oklahoma ) is an American bodybuilder , known as "The Golden Eagle".

Life

Thomas Steven Platz was born on an army base in Fort Sill . At Christmas 1965, his parents gave him a Joe Weider weight set, which Platz said immediately knew that it would change his life. Tom Platz's competitive career began in 1973 with the participation in the Mr. Adonis competition. Eight years later he reached the peak of his career when he finished 3rd in the international bodybuilding competition Mr. Olympia in 1981 , after failing to qualify for the final in 1980 when Arnold Schwarzenegger won his seventh and final title can.

At his best times in the 1980s, he said he was always between 95 and 108 kg in competitive form and had the best results with less than 30 mg testosterone injections per day.

There is general consensus among bodybuilders that Platz had the most prominent legs of the 1980s. They exceeded those of all other competitive bodybuilders at the time in terms of size, number of grooves and definition, so that Arnold Schwarzenegger was not able to keep up with this shape and size.

Jusup Wilkosz , the most successful German bodybuilder to date , said in an interview that he would sacrifice ten years of his life in order to be able to call legs and space his own. ("I'd give ten years of my life for legs like that.")

In 1986, Platz declared his retirement from competitive bodybuilding. Now (2012) he lives in Southern California, where he runs a fitness company with his wife, Cha Nikito-Platz. He also gives lectures on bodybuilding, nutrition and fitness.
