Tom Rojo Poller (* 1978 in Osnabrück ) is a German composer.

Artistic career

Poller studied composition in Detmold as a young student at the HfM, in London at the Royal College of Music and with Walter Zimmermann at the Berlin University of the Arts, from which he also graduated and graduated as a master class student . He also completed a master’s degree in German, philosophy and musicology at the Humboldt University in Berlin.

His works have been performed by various ensembles at home and abroad. He has a particularly close collaboration with the Ensemble Adapter, with whom the portrait CD “geht” was created.

music

Poller's music often arises from dealing with theoretical and conceptual issues, whereby the focus is always on the sensual experience of the sounding phenomenon of music. He is particularly interested in the subject of “time” and the relationship between music and language.

More recent works pursue an approach that tries to integrate external and foreign musical material recognizably into the work structure; in this way works were created that are based on Stravinsky's and Schönberg's audio documents or on readings of texts by Alexander Kluge .

In addition to the tradition of occidental music (and here especially its lesser-known sides such as the Ars subtilior ), Poller is also known through non-European music and other contemporary music practices such as B. influenced by electronic music. In 2006 he took part in the intercultural project “global interplay”, in 2013 a piece was created based on Korean Sanjo music , and Poller composed a remix of the track Caffeine for acoustic ensemble for the Berlin techno project Brandt Brauer Frick .
