action

Tom Sawyer lives in the fictional American town of St. Petersburg in the 19th century. Because he fought, as so often, his aunt Polly punishes him: he should paint the fence. He lets others do this for himself - he tells them it would be fun and he even gets paid for it.

Tom is in love with Becky and meets her at school the next day. Since he accidentally admits to have been engaged to Amy Lawrence before, she doesn't want to hear from him anymore. Since Tom is also badly treated at home, he flees to Jackson Island with Huck and another friend to become a pirate. The people in the village mourn because the runaways were not found despite an extensive search and thought to be dead. However, they return in time for the memorial service in the church - the joy is great.
