Hannibal is a city in the US state of Missouri in the counties Marion County and Ralls County . It is on the Mississippi River . The city has 17,757 inhabitants (as of 2000) and an area of ​​39.1 square kilometers.

history

Hannibal is the hometown of the American writer Mark Twain , who spent his childhood and youth here. In Hannibal Journal that his brother Orion Clemens belonged, Twain wrote his first newspaper article.
