Jacob "Jake" Peter Beckley (born August 4, 1867 in Hannibal , Missouri , † June 25, 1918 in Kansas City , Missouri) was an American baseball player in Major League Baseball . Its nickname was Eagle Eye .

biography

Beckley played as a professional baseball player in the National League for various clubs in the position of first baseman . He played his first game for the Pittsburgh Alleghenys on June 20, 1888. In thirteen of his eighteen seasons he achieved a batting average of over 30%. He scored a total of 2930 basehits and 244 triples , which puts him in fourth place on the all-time best of Major League Baseball. Only Eddie Murray played more games in the 1st baseman position than Jake Beckley. His last appearance as a player was on June 15, 1907, wearing the St. Louis Cardinals jersey . He then worked for clubs of minor league baseball as a manager. Beckley died in 1918 at the age of 50. In 1971 he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame by the Veterans Committee .
