Tomaž Humar

Tomaž Humar (born February 18, 1969 in Ljubljana , Yugoslavia , today Slovenia ; † November 10, 2009 at Langtang Lirung , Nepal ) was a Slovenian mountaineer.

He grew up in Kamnik and began climbing in the nearby Steiner Alps . He has been climbing mountains in the Himalayas since the mid-1990s . In October 1997 he climbed the Nuptse together with Janez Jeglič ; after both had reached the summit, Jeglič was carried away by the storm and killed. Humar was expelled from the Slovenian Alpine Club because there his tendency to go on even in unfavorable weather conditions and thereby also risk the lives of others was rejected. Humar's later, privately sponsored tours were documented live on his homepage by his employees in the base camp, such as his spectacular ascent on the south face of Dhaulagiri in November 1999. While working on his house in October 2000, he fell from a height of 3 meters Injuries too. In 2005 he got stuck on the ascent of Nanga Parbat due to bad weather; At the urging of the Slovenian government, the Pakistani air force undertook a difficult rescue operation by helicopter .

While trying to climb Langtang Lirung, Humar broke his leg on November 9, 2009; he called for help on the satellite phone and last reported on November 10th. His body was recovered on November 14th.
