Holger Mann (born February 19, 1979 in Dresden ) is a German politician, within the parliamentary group spokesman for universities and science as well as for digitization, technology and EU funding policy of the SPD . He has been chairman of the SPD Leipzig since November 17, 2018.

Life

Holger Mann spent his childhood in Annaberg-Buchholz in the Ore Mountains . After military service in Leipzig Wiederitzsch , he began studying political science, journalism and history at the University of Leipzig , which he successfully completed in 2006. He then worked as managing director of a development company in Leipzig New Lakeland until March 2009.

He is married and has two children.

Mann has been a member of the SPD since his youth. From 2004 to 2009 he was state chairman of the Saxon Jusos. Since 2006 he has been a member of the state executive committee of the SPD Saxony . In the 2009 state elections , he entered the Saxon state parliament via the SPD's state list and again with an improved result in the 2014 state elections . Mann headed the SPD working group on science, research, digitization and media during the coalition negotiations between the CDU and the SPD in autumn 2014.

He is a full member of the European Committee and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Science, University, Culture and Media. Since 2009, Mann has been the spokesman for universities and science and since 2013 the spokesman for digitization, technology and EU funding policy of the SPD parliamentary group in the Saxon state parliament. From 2010 to 2013 he was a member of the study commission “Strategies for a future-oriented technology and innovation policy in the Free State of Saxony”, which presented its final report in the first quarter of 2013.

On November 17, 2018, the delegates of the SPD Leipzig elected him with 84.3% as the new chairman. He succeeds Hassan Soilihi Mzé, who resigned in June after lengthy internal party arguments.
