Tomas Arvidsson

Tomas Arvidsson (* 1941 in Älmhult ) is a Swedish crime writer .

Life

Arvidsson grew up in Gothenburg and then lived in Kalmar and Öland for many years . He completed training as a teacher for psychology and biology and from 1971 became head of training at the Kalmar University. He later held senior positions within the Swedish television and daily newspaper industries. From the year 2000 he ended his employment relationship and became a freelance writer.

Arvidsson began in 1976 detective stories to write and was awarded the Swedish Crime Writers' Academy of the Swedish crime author Academy in the category Best Swedish first novel . He said of his writing:

“I want to tell a story that is exciting and hopefully entertaining. I am trying to show that creating tension does not require violence and that humor can have traits of seriousness for those who want to see it. If you will, my stories can perhaps be seen as a kind of silent protest against the speculative entertainment violence that sometimes takes on grotesque traits in television, film and books. "

Arvidsson has written ten detective novels to date. Most have been translated into Norwegian, Finnish, Danish and Dutch. Swedish television produced three television series ( Dubbelstötarna , Dubbelsvindlarna , Studierektorns sista strid ) based on four of its books. He is a member of the Swedish Criminal Authors Academy and has been a member of the Smålands Academy since 2008, where he occupies chair 1.

Arvidsson is married to Ulla Arvidsson and has two daughters Malin and Stina.
