Älmhult (also outdated Elmhult ) is a small industrial town in Sweden and the capital of the municipality of Älmhult . Älmhult is located in the province of Kronobergs län in Småland in southern Sweden at the southern end of Lake Möckeln .

Älmhult grew around a once important railway junction. This is where the Södra stambanan ( Malmö - Nässjö - Falköping , part of today's Malmö - Stockholm line ), Sölvesborg-Olofströms-Elmhults Järnväg (SOEJ) (to Blekinge , now only freight transport) and now closed line to Kristianstad met .

Älmhult is one of the main locations of the furniture company IKEA . The company that dominates the town opened its first furniture store here in 1958. The local tourist information office helped 2,354 visitors in 2010. With 39 percent, Sweden made up the largest share, followed by German (33 percent) and Danish tourists (22 percent).

Älmhult owes many visitors to the great popularity of IKEA, because the company's first furniture store is the most important tourist destination in the municipality, according to the municipal administration. There has been an IKEA museum in the village since June 30, 2016.

The sculpture “ Stolen ” by Kaj Engström and Arne Persson in the form of a gigantic chair marks the entrance to Älmhult.

On Älmhult's central square between the train station and the municipal administration there is a statue of the famous botanist Carl von Linné , who was born in Stenbrohult ( Råshult ) near Älmhult and was created in 1946 by Carl Eldh .
