Tomas Bertelman (* 1945 in Lund ) is a Swedish diplomat and has been the ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden to the Russian Federation since 2008 .

Life

Bertelman studied at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and then continued his studies at Lund University, where he finally received his Bachelor of Arts in 1971 .

Bertelman started working in the Swedish Foreign Ministry. Between 1977 and 1981 he was First Secretary at the Swedish Embassy in Hanoi and then at the Swedish Embassy in London . In 1984 he became counselor in the politics department at the Swedish embassy in Moscow . From 1988 to 1989 he held the post of Swedish Consul General in Leningrad . Various other posts followed in the next few years.

In 1995 Bertelman was sent to Spain as ambassador and held this office until 2000. Bertelman then became the Swedish ambassador to Latvia . This was followed by ambassadorial posts in Poland (2005–2008) and in the Russian Federation.

Bertelman speaks English , Spanish and French , as well as Russian , Polish and German .
