Tomb Raider: The Chronicle (original title: Tomb Raider Chronicles , also Tomb Raider V ) is the fifth part of the Tomb Raider series. The game was released in November 2000 for the PlayStation and Dreamcast game consoles as well as for Windows . The protagonist Lara Croft has two new possibilities of movement in this part: She can jump forward out of narrow niches and balance on ropes.
action
The game begins with a memorial service for the supposedly deceased Lara Croft . Then some old friends (Winston, Jean Yves and Father Patrick) meet to tell each other stories they know about Lara. It is now time to experience these stories.
The first trip takes Lara to Rome, where she searches for the so-called philosopher's stone . She fights her way through an old city and secret tunnels and fights two old enemies from the first part in order to achieve her goal.
The second target is a Russian submarine that Lara is exploring to find the spear of doom . Ultimately, she finds it hidden on the seabed.
In the third story, Lara is the 16-year-old girl known from Tomb Raider IV who has to fight her way through a gloomy Ireland without weapons. She encounters demons and other dark figures.
The last adventure takes the archaeologist to New York City in a high-tech tower of Croys . Here Lara wants to take the artifact Iris, which she found with her mentor in the fourth part at the beginning. The player learns why Werner von Croy is so angry with his former student in the fourth part.
Level editor
As an extra, a level editor was included with the game on a second CD (first for Windows, months later also for Macintosh). After a relatively short training period, it enables the creation of professional levels. The enclosed texture and object sets are taken from the fourth part. In order to give the user an insight into the structure of the game, some of the levels from Part 4 have been included in an editable version. In the meantime, the level editor has created a fairly large level building scene all over the world. The fact that so many people around the world enthusiastically build their own levels encouraged some fans to write programs that allow certain complex tasks to be done in the editor with just a few clicks of the mouse. The level editor itself has also been further developed by fans.
Compatibility with newer Windows versions
Officially, the game only supports older Windows versions up to Windows ME / Windows 2000. On newer Windows versions, the game runs by installing “DirectX 9c End-User Runtimes (June 2010)” and the “Tomb Raider Series Multi Patch”.
