The Tombe du Géant (also called Dolmen des Tombes , Dolmen des Combal or Dolmen de Charles ) is located near the Les Tombes farm in the hamlet of Charles, southeast of Septfonds near Caussade in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in France . In France, dolmen is the generic term for Neolithic megalithic structures of all kinds (see: French nomenclature ).

The dolmen is partly still in its hill. The chamber consists of two side plates, each 5.0 m long, with a fitted end stone in between. The capstone is broken. The inside of the chamber is 4.5 m long and 1.5 m wide and, as usual, faces east.

It has been registered as a Monument historique since 1889 .

context

Most of Septfonds' 15 dolmens are located on the Oardennes plateau (Combal dolmens ) because of the need for large limestone slabs for their construction. The Moussac and Charles plants are less conveniently located. The Septfonds dolmens belong to the group of around 800 dolmens in the Quercy .
