Septfonds ( Occitan : Sèt-fonts ) is a French commune with 2,212 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . Septfonds belongs to the arrondissement of Montauban and the canton of Quercy-Rouergue . The inhabitants are called Septfontois .

geography

Septfonds is located on the Lère River ( called Lère Morte here ). Septfonds is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Cayriech and Saint-Georges in the north, Lavaurette in the northeast, Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val in the east, Saint-Cirq in the south, Monteils in the west and Caussade in the northwest.

The former route nationale 126 (today's D926) runs through the municipality .

history

Numerous dolmens (fifteen in total) in the parish indicate its importance in early human history. The Bastide Septfonds was founded in 1271 by Alfonso von Poitiers . In 1939 a camp was set up here. Initially intended for the Spanish Republicans, it was used by the Germans during the occupation from 1942 as a concentration camp for Jews for later deportation to the extermination camps.
