Orgueil ( Occitan : Orgulh ) is a French commune with 1,658 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region . It belongs to the arrondissement of Montauban and is part of the canton of Tarn-Tescou-Quercy vert (until 2015: canton of Grisolles ). The inhabitants are called Orgueillois .
geography
Orgueil is located about twelve kilometers south-southeast of Montauban on the southern bank of the Tarns River , which also forms the northern or northeastern municipal boundary. The municipality is located in the Côtes du Frontonnais wine region . Orgueil is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Corbarieu in the north, Reyniès in the north and northeast, Nohic in the east, Fronton in the south, Campsas in the west and southwest and Labastide-Saint-Pierre in the west and northwest.
The former route nationale 630 (today's D630) runs through the municipality .
history
There was already a village settlement on the Tarn in the 9th century. As a bastide , the place is redesigned by Simon de Montfort in 1211 . In 1864 a CI chondrite with an astonishing weight of approx. 10 kilograms was found here.
