Albias is a French commune with 3,246 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitania region (previously Midi-Pyrénées ). It is the seat of the canton of Quercy-Aveyron , was previously part of the canton of Nègrepelisse and is located in the arrondissement of Montauban . The inhabitants are called Albiassain (e) s .
geography
Albias is located about eleven kilometers northeast of the center of Montauban . In the north, the Aveyron River borders the municipality. Albias is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Mirabel in the north and northwest, Réalville and Cayrac in the northeast, Nègrepelisse in the east, Saint-Étienne-de-Tulmont in the south, Montauban in the southwest and Lamothe-Capdeville in the west and southwest.
The Autoroute A20 and the former Route nationale 20 (today's D820) run through the municipality .
history
In the municipality lies the former Gallic city of Cosa , which was here on the ancient road from Cahors to Toulouse . The bastide was founded here by King Philip the Fair in 1285 . A previous bastide was founded in the 12th century by the Viscount of Bruniquel.
