Montalzat ( Occitan : Montalzac ) is a French commune with 658 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Tarn-et-Garonne department in the Occitania region (until 2015: Midi-Pyrénées ). It belongs to the arrondissement of Montauban and is part of the canton of Quercy-Aveyron (until 2015: canton of Montpezat-de-Quercy ). The inhabitants are called Montalzatais .

geography

Montalzat is located about 25 kilometers north-northeast of Montauban . Montalzat is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Montpezat-de-Quercy in the north and west, Belfort-du-Quercy in the north, Lapenche in the east, Caussade in the south and south-east, Saint-Vincent in the south-west and Auty in the west and south-west.

The Autoroute A20 and the former Route nationale 20 (today's D820) run through the municipality .

history

The bastide was founded in 1232 for the lords of La Garde, who then ceded it to Raymond VII of Toulouse .
