Tomen y Mur

Tomen y Mur is the name of an archaeological site on the A470 , northeast of Llyn Trawsfynydd in Gwynedd , Wales .

Around the year 78 Gnaeus Iulius Agricola built a Roman fort there . Under Emperor Hadrian the area was reduced in size around the year 110 and surrounded with stone walls, 30 years later it was abandoned by the soldiers. The military camp was equipped with an amphitheater, remains of which can still be seen as an oval rampart measuring 30 × 37 meters. A fort bath could also be proven.

A millennium later emerged Motte the Normans at this point.
