Hugues Thomas

Hugues Thomas (born May 17, 1803 in Cressier , † February 28, 1855 in La Chaux-de-Fonds ) was a Swiss politician . From 1851 to 1854 he was a member of the National Council.

biography

Thomas probably studied with the Jesuits , after which he worked as a mathematics teacher at the Jesuit boarding school in Freiburg until 1847 . Although he came from the Catholic-conservative milieu, in 1848 he was one of the first to join the radical liberal Association patriotique in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In the revolution that led to the deposition of the government of the Prussian governor Ernst von Pfuel in the same year , he was a member of the provisional administrative committee for justice and police. In 1850 Thomas was elected to the Grand Council of the Canton of Neuchâtel . A year later he ran successfully in the National Council elections in 1851 , but three years later he did not succeed in re-election. In 1854/55 he was a teacher at the college in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
