Tommaso Temanza
Tommaso Temanza (March 9, 1705 - June 14, 1789 ) was an architect, hydraulic engineer and historian. He was the nephew of the architect Giovanni Scalfarottos and was buried in the church of Santa Maria Maddalena, which he built .
Works
His first work in 1748 was the oratorio Santa Margherita, on Via San Francesco, Padua.
In 1760 he built the classicist church of Santa Maria Maddalena in Cannaregio , which is reminiscent of the Pantheon in Rome, as well as the church of San Simeone Piccolo , built by Scalfarotto . After his death, the construction was completed by his student Gian Antonio Selva , architect of the Teatro la Fenice .
In 1770 he built a round chapel for the Villa Contarini in Piazzola sul Brenta based on Andrea Palladio's Tempietto Barbaro .
He built the casino in the garden of the Palazzo Zenobio degli Armeni. As chief water protection officer (Proto alle acque) Temanza managed the expansion of the Riva degli Schiavoni in 1779/80 . In 1762 he wrote a biography of Andrea Palladio: Vita di Andrea Palladio. In 1778 he wrote the biographies of Venice's architects: Vite dei più celebri architetti e scrittori veneziani.
