Gian Antonio Selva
Gian Antonio Selva (born September 2, 1751 in Venice , † January 22, 1819 in Venice) was an Italian architect and the most important representative of Venetian classicism . His most important works include the Teatro La Fenice opera house in Venice and the Teatro Giuseppe Verdi opera house in Trieste .
Life
His family came from Friuli . His father was an optician. After Gian Antonio Selva first studied mathematics with his uncle in Vicenza, Tommaso Temanza became his teacher. From 1778 to 1780 he went on a study trip to Rome via Florence , where he became friends with Antonio Canova . He traveled on to England, the Netherlands and Paris. In 1787 he became socio di merito and in 1807 professor of architecture at the Accademia di belle arti di Venezia . In 1807 he became ingegnere civile for the entire kingdom. He influenced the cityscape of Venice by working out an initial development plan with the assistance of Antonio Diedo. He laid out the Giardini pubblici , which is now partially used by the Biennale , in the east of the Sestiere Castello .

- Teatro La Fenice (1790–1792)
- Together with Antonio Diedo, he renewed the facade of San Maurizio in Venice (1806).
- The church Nome di Gesù (Jesus name) in Santa Croce was completed by Antonio Diedo (1810) according to Selva's plans.
- The Giardini pubblici , now largely a Biennale site (1810).
