Tommy O'Haver

Tommy O'Haver (born November 30, 1967 in Carmel , Indiana ) is an American film director and screenwriter .

biography

Tommy O'Haver attended Carmel High School through 1985 . The medium of film fascinated him as a teenager, where he made small Super 8 films, so that he aspired to a career as a film critic. He completed his studies at Indiana University in Bloomington with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism .

In 1991 he moved to Los Angeles when he was offered a job as a production assistant. His first project was Freddy's Finale - Nightmare on Elm Street 6 (1991). He took screenwriting lessons at the University of California, Los Angeles and created his own short films, such as The Pitch , his recording work for the USC School of Cinema-Television .

His successful student shorts Heidi and I , Catalina , Home Movies and Two were often about homosexuality - he himself is openly gay - and were featured at various film festivals. At the Sundance Film Festival he met the film producer David Moseley , with whose help he was able to make his debut film Billy's Hollywood Screen Kiss (1998) as a director and screenwriter. His debut, a remake of Catalina , was received positively by critics and audiences alike. This meant the breakthrough for him.

His first feature film Ran an die Braut from 2001 was a moderate success. It took about three years before he was offered directing Ella - Verflixt & zauberhaft .
