Tommy Turner

Tommy Turner (also Tommie Turner; born January 17, 1947 ) is a former American sprinter who had specialized in the 400-meter run .

In 1971 he won the Pan American Games in Cali in the 4 x 400 meter relay .

At the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich he was part of the six-man US squad in the 4 x 400 meter relay , but was not used because the US team could not send a quartet into the race after John Smith was injured and Vince Matthews and Wayne Collett had been banned for their behavior at the awards ceremony.

In 1971 he was starting NCAA hall champion over 600 yards for Murray State University .

He set his personal best over 440 yards of 45.4 s (equivalent to 45.1 s over 400 m) on June 18, 1971 in Seattle .
