Tomoki Sakata

Tomoki Sakata ( Japanese 阪田 知 樹 Sakata Tomoki ; born 1993 in Nagoya , Aichi Prefecture ) is a Japanese pianist .

Life

Sakata began playing the piano at the age of five. At the age of 16 he received private lessons from Paul Badura-Skoda . He studied at the Tokyo Music Academy for two years . In 2011 he was accepted as the youngest student at the Lake Como International Piano Academy. He also studied with Arie Vardi at the University of Music and Drama in Hannover .

In 2013 he was one of the six finalists at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition . In 2016 he won first prize and six special prizes at the “Franz Liszt International Piano Competition” in Budapest. Sakata has played in concert halls such as the Leipzig Gewandhaus , the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and the Tokyo Opera City Concert Hall and has appeared at numerous festivals, including the Verbier Festival (Switzerland), the Janáčkův Máj music festival in Ostrava (Czech Republic) and the Brussels Piano Festival (Belgium) and the “Musical Kremlin” festival (Russia).
