Tonguç Baykurt

Tonguç Baykurt (born January 31, 1962 in Ankara ) is a German director and screenwriter of Turkish descent.

Life

Tonguc Baykurt came to Germany in 1978 at the age of 16. He first studied mathematics and mineralogy in the Ruhr area . After completing his intermediate diploma, however, he decided against his mother's wish for an artistic career and began studying graphic design in Dortmund in 1982 . He then worked as an art director at the advertising agency Springer & Jacoby . Tonguç Baykurt has received multiple awards from the Art Directors Club for his advertising work.

Tonguc Baykurt realized his first short film "Finger Weg!" In 1997, with which he also applied to study film at the University of Hamburg. From 1998 he studied with Hark Bohm and finished his studies in 2000 at what is now the Hamburg Media School . His graduation film Jan-Yusuf (2000) is about the impending circumcision of a German-Turkish boy. As part of the children's film compilation Outlier (2006), the film made it to the cinemas again years later. Baykurt's other short films were shown at various festivals and received several awards. In addition to scripts, he also writes stories for children and young people.

Tonguc Baykurt also illustrated literary works by his father, Fakir Baykurt , among other things .
