Dietrich Kötzsche

Dietrich Kötzsche (born July 3, 1930 in Berlin ; † January 20, 2008 there ) was a German art historian .

He passed his Abitur in 1949 at the Ulrich von Hutten Oberschule in Berlin-Lichtenrade . First he completed a traineeship at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin (East), where he soon became a research assistant. In the 1950/51 winter semester he began studying art history , Christian archeology and classical archeology at the Humboldt University in Berlin , from which he graduated in 1954 with a diploma; afterwards he worked again as a research assistant at the East Berlin museums. At the end of 1958 he ended this activity and moved to the University of Bonn in the 1959 summer semester . 1963–1965 he was Scientific Secretary of the Council of Europe exhibition "Charlemagne". On January 1, 1966, he took on the position of assistant at the Bonn Art History Institute. In 1969 he received his doctorate under Herbert von Einem Dr. phil. After a brief activity at the Aachen Suermondt Museum , he went to the Kunstgewerbemuseum Berlin in 1971 , where he worked, most recently as chief curator, until his retirement in 1995; at the same time he was honorary professor at the Technical University of Berlin .

His main research area was the goldsmith's art of the Middle Ages, especially that of the Rhine-Meuse area in the 12th century, where he was one of the internationally recognized experts.
