Toni Steingass

Toni Steingass (born April 13, 1921 in Cologne , † October 29, 1987 in Mechernich-Kommern ) was a composer and lyricist of the Cologne Carnival , publisher and presenter .

Life

Toni Steingass' birth house was near Friesenplatz . From an early age he was shaped by the musical legacy of the family. In 1946 he founded the Steingass-Terzett together with Franz Josef Schmitz and Bernd Sperl and performed at many carnival meetings and performances. Later, Heinz Oepen joined the group as the third man, and in the end Johann Kasper Virnich (Käp) until the trio was dissolved. From 1972 until his death, he performed together with his son Helmut "Heli" Steingass under the name Die Steingässer, the life artist from Cologne . When WDR and Deutsche Welle , he worked as a presenter and presented mainly kölsche songs. "Toni Steingass Musikverlag" still exists today, it was run by his son until his death in 2016.

On his gravestone created by Herbert Labusga in the Melaten cemetery , the saying was carved:

His widow Anni Steingass (born January 2, 1922, Caasmann ) died on December 14, 2013 after a long and serious illness.

Honors

  • Toni Steingass received the highest award of the Cologne Carnival, the Willi Ostermann Medal in gold , in 1977.
  • In Mechernich- Comern, a street was named after Toni Steingass and in Cologne-Nippes a monument was erected in the park named after him.
