Tony Gray

Tony Gray (born March 25, 1975 in Newcastle upon Tyne , England) is a British fusion musician ( electric bass , composition).

Career

Gray, John McLaughlin's nephew , did not learn an instrument at first. It was not until he was 18 that he began to play the bass guitar after an accident, where he received advice from his uncles. He studied at Berklee College of Music until 2001 ; During this time he was a member of the pop band Bliss , with whom he toured internationally and released a CD. Since 2004 he has led his own band, with which he has released several albums. Also since 2004 he was part of Hiromi's band , with whom he released three records. He also recorded with Fabrizio Sotti, Kelly Buchanon, Karyshma and John McLaughlin ( Industrial Zen 2006, Essential John McLaughlin 2007).

In 2012 he founded the Tony Gray Bass Academy , an online music school. He also published two textbooks.

Prizes and awards

Gray received the Outstanding Performer Award from Berklee College of Music in 2001 . The International Association for Jazz Education recognized his Outstanding Contribution to Jazz in 2004 . His album Unknown Angels received an Independent Music Award for Jazz Album of the Year in 2011 .
