Martin Valihora (born May 4, 1976 in Bratislava ) is a Slovak jazz musician (drums and percussion).

Live and act

Valihora first learned the piano at the age of ten, but then switched to drums, on which he received private lessons from Oldo Petráš. Between 1990 and 1992 he studied percussion at the conservatory in his hometown with Marián Zajaček. Valihora was then active in numerous Slovak pop, rock and jazz bands, such as IMT Smile , the Collegium Musicum , Midi, Prúdy, Fermáta and the quartet of Gabo Jonáš.

On a scholarship, he then studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston. From 2004 he worked with the pianist Hiromi Uehara , with whom he presented three albums. He has been part of the Trio Depart since 2013 . In addition, he leads his own trio, which initially included the keyboardist István Oláh and the bassist Juraj Griglák and later Vardan Ovsepian and Daniele Camarda. He can also be heard on albums with Tony Gray , David Stein, IMT Smile and Fermáta .
