Tony Orlando
Tony Orlando (born April 3, 1944 in New York City ; actually Michael Antony Orlando Cassavitis ) is an American singer who had worldwide success in the 1970s, especially in the trio Dawn .
Life
In 1960 Orlando studied at the College of Aviation in Queens . His singing qualities were discovered there by chance. He got a record deal and released the first single Halfway to Paradise in 1961 , which reached number 39 on the US charts. The next single, Bless You , reached number 15 and even hit number 5 in the UK.
In 1970 he recorded a demo tape with the two singers Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent under the name Dawn . The resulting single Candida was a million-dollar success. Four more million sellers followed under changing band names until the formation broke up in the late 1970s.
In 2012 Orlando played a supporting role in the film Der Chaos-Dad (original That's My Boy ).
