Toon van Vliet

Antonis "Toon" van Vliet (born June 20, 1922 in Rotterdam , † November 5, 1975 in Heemstede ) was a Dutch jazz saxophonist (tenor).

In the 1950s he played in the sextet of Wessel Ilcken and his wife Rita Reys (who played in Scheherezade in Amsterdam) and with the "Ramblers", but also in an All Star Quintet with Cab Kaye and Rob Pronk . In the 1960s he was in the saxophone section of Boy Edgar's big band , which also included Harry Verbeke , Piet Noordijk , Theo Loevendie and Herman Schoonderwalt .

Toon van Vliet can also be heard on the first LP ever recorded with Dutch jazz, a recording from the Rembrandt Theater in Eindhoven on May 21, 1953 “Jazz at the Kurhaus” (with Nedly Elstak and saxophonist Tony Vos and Jos van Heuverzwijn). He also plays on the early Philips recordings of Dutch modern jazz "Jazz behind the Dykes" (1956/7).
