The gate on Long Toompea ( Estonian Pika jala väravatorn ) is a gate tower of the Reval city fortifications in the Estonian capital Tallinn (Reval).

location

He is at the bottom, the north end of the Old Town Revaler on the Cathedral Hill road leading Langer Cathedral Hill (Estonian: Pikk jalg), which is passed through a gate in the bottom of the tower.

Architecture and history

The square tower was built in 1380. Between 1450 and 1456 a reconstruction took place through which the tower got its present appearance, which still corresponds to the older form for the Reval city fortifications, in which square gate towers were integrated into the city wall. Since then, the tower has five floors and a total height of 20 meters. The floor plan is irregular, the individual floors are accessed by a spiral staircase on the northern side. The gate leading to Domberg was closed at night until the 19th century. Toompea and Old Town were separate cities until 1878.

In 2000 the tower was restored. Studios are located in the tower.
