The Reeperbahnturm ( Estonian Köismäe torn ) is a defense tower of the Reval city fortifications in the Estonian capital Tallinn (Reval).

location

It is located on the northwest side of the old town of Reval, east of the square of the towers . Laboratoriumstraße runs on its east side, which faces the old town . The neighboring defense towers are the Loewenschede Tower in the south and the Plate Tower in the northeast.

Architecture and history

A first tower at this point was built in 1360. It was initially 13.3 meters high. In the years 1436/37 renovations took place, the walls were reinforced. It received its current shape and height of 27 meters in 1520 when two protective storeys were added. The tower now has a horseshoe shape and has five floors. On the first floor there is a door that leads to the area facing away from the city fortifications, the place of the towers. Another exit leads to the city wall. On the third floor there is an event room with a capacity of around 70 seats, which is used, among other things, for performances and is a venue for the municipal theater . There are also toilets in the tower today. The fifth floor offers a view.
