Gates Renberg
Tore Renberg (born August 3, 1972 in Stavanger ) is a Norwegian writer and musician.
Life
Renberg studied literature and philosophy at the University of Bergen . He works as a literary critic and journalist and from 1998 to 1999 he also moderated his own program (“Reading Forum”) on Norwegian television ( NRK ). He is best known to the German reading public because he appears as a figure with his own name in the autobiographical series of novels Mein Kampf by Karl-Ove Knausgård . Knausgård and Renberg are close friends to this day.
Renberg has published in a variety of genres: novels, children's books, short stories, plays, and film scripts. He received numerous prizes in Norway and in 1998 the Henrik Steffens Prize from the Alfred Toepfer Foundation FVS from the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel . His debut Sovende floke (1995) won the Tarjei Vesaas Debutant Award and quickly earned him a reputation as one of the outstanding Norwegian writers of his generation. The follow-up novel Matriarkat (1996) was able to consolidate this reputation. The commercial breakthrough came in 2003 with Mannen som elsket Yngve, which became one of the most widely read novels of the decade in Norway. In 2005 Renberg and Orheim published his most extensive and ambitious work to date. The novel about the childhood and adolescence of Jarle Klepp in a parental home characterized by addiction was enthusiastically received in Norway and is regarded by many as Renberg's most important work to date. The author himself has indicated that he wants to bring out more books about the hero Jarle Klepp. In his novel Du er så lys , published in 2016, Renberg wrote for the first time in the Norwegian variety Nynorsk instead of in Bokmål as before .
Two novels were translated into German: The Miracle in the Strawberry Field (original Renselse, ) and 2017 the novel We'll see you tomorrow .
Renberg made his debut as a screenwriter in 2004 with the feature film Alt for Egil (director: Tore Rygh). Based on his successful novel Mannen som elsket Yngve , he wrote the screenplay for the film of the same name, which was shown in Scandinavian cinemas in 2008 and has now also appeared under the German title Der Mann, der Yngve Loved . Renberg has also been passionate about music since childhood. He plays violin and piano and was active in various Norwegian bands. He currently plays the keyboard in the electro-pop band Modan Garu.
