The Torersee is a small lake in the Gurktal Alps ( Carinthia ) in the municipality of Albeck and one of the two source lakes of the Gurk . It is located in the Gurkursprung nature reserve .
The lake is 2010 m above sea level and occupies an area of 0.35 hectares. It is 130 m long and 38 m wide. The maximum depth is 1.2 m and is close to the south bank, the lake freezes completely in winter. The water volume is 2426 m³, the catchment area covers 0.16 km².
The bedrock consists of monkshood slate , a meta diabase - phyllite . The surrounding vegetation is predominantly crooked sedge .
The water is very cold and poor in nutrients. There is only a small amount of algae biomass. More than 20 species of algae have been identified in phytoplankton . At zooplankton come Arctodiaptomus alpinus and Cyclops before. In macrozoobenthos , larvae of Melampophylax nepos and other trichoptera dominate the lake . Since the lake freezes through in winter, there are no fish in it.
