The Torfbahn Belnikowskoje ( Russian Узкоколейная железная дорога Бельниковского торфопредприятия , transkr. Uskokoleinaja schelesnaja doroga Belnikowskowo torfopredprijatija , transl. Uzkokolejnaâ železnaâ doroga Belnikovskogo torfopredpriâtiâ ) is a narrow-gauge railway in the settlement Nomscha (Номжа) in Rajon Neja in the Oblast Kostroma in Russia .
history
The twenty kilometer long light railroad was put into operation around 1964 and was still in operation all year round in 2012. It has a track width of 750 millimeters. Today it is used to transport peat and to move workers. At the southeast end of the line, the peat is reloaded into broad-gauge railroad cars with a gauge of 1520 millimeters and taken to combined heat and power plants and made available for agricultural use.
