The Torkopf is a 1,930 m high peak in the Allgäu Alps . It is located south of the Windecksattels ( 1751 m ) and is subordinate to the Upper Gottesackerwände ( 2033 m ).
Origin of name
It was first mentioned in 1693 as Thorkopf in a file in the Wolfegger archive. In 1783, a Thor B. is recorded in Blasius Huebers Vorarlberg map .
The name of the gate head could be its location. So it forms a gate-like appearance over a ridge that runs north to the upper Gottesack walls. The gate appearance between the Torkopf and Mitteleck in the east is even more striking .
Ascent
There is no marked path to the top of the gate. All climbs are partially exposed and require climbing experience, a head for heights and absolute surefootedness in the Schrofen area . The normal route runs from Windecksattel over the west ridge and is indicated with difficulty II + .
