Torpedo Billy Murphy
Torpedo Billy Murphy (* 3. November 1863 in Auckland , New Zealand ; † 26. July 1939 ) was a New Zealand boxer in the featherweight .

He decided his professional debut on April 1, 1882 with a points victory against his compatriot Morris on points for himself. He suffered his first bankruptcy in his 3rd fight. On January 13, 1890, he defeated the previously unbeaten Ike Weir in a 30-round fight by knockout in round 14 and thus became universal world champion. He lost this title in September of the same year against Young Griffo by giving up.
Murphy was inducted into the New Zealand Sports Hall of Fame in 1990.
