The Torpedo Type 89 is a Japanese torpedo that was developed in the 1980s and introduced into the Marine Self-Defense Forces in the 1990s . He is currently used by the submarines of the Harushio , the Oyashio and the Sōryū class . The Yūshio-class submarines, which were decommissioned between 1999 and 2006, were also equipped with the Type 89 .
The Type 89 is a wire-guided heavyweight torpedo that is equipped with passive and active sonar . Its performance corresponds to that of the American Mk. 48 ADCAP . The manufacturer is Mitsubishi Heavy Industries .
