Location of Toba in Thuringia

Toba is a district of the municipality of Helbedündorf in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .

geography

Toba is located southeast of Großbrüchter on Landesstrasse 1032 in an agricultural corridor. To the east, there is a forest in the mountainous landscape of the Dün .

history

The place was first mentioned in a document on March 26, 1143. 346 people live in the village today. In the 12th - 14th century it was the seat of the county of Kirchberg, then in the 13th century the Counts of Honstein had their seat here. The names of the former no longer existing gates, Kirch , fall and Anger Thor , remember that power. Until 1918 the place belonged to the rule of the principality Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . Toba was and is characterized by agriculture. In the 1950s, the farmers had to take the path of collectivization of agriculture in the GDR. After the political change , new forms of agricultural work were found under changed ownership (see Keula). The church of St. George is an outstanding building . Elaborately repaired from 1606 to 1608, it has one of the most beautiful village church towers in Thuringia. Three chilled cast iron bells from 1921 hang in it. Their strikes are f ′, a ′ and c ″. The church itself is a Gothic hall building, the interior of which is spanned by a wooden barrel typical of Thuringia. The high altar and the organ are well worth seeing. However, it is damaged by rainwater and cannot be played on.

The community of Helbedündorf was founded on November 25, 1993 (see also Helbedündorf).
