Keula is a district of the municipality of Helbedündorf in the Kyffhäuserkreis in Thuringia .
geography
Keula is located on state roads 1016 and 1032 west of Holzthaleben in an agricultural undulating area . The Keula Forest begins north of the village . To the south is Menteroda from the area of the neighboring municipality.
The place itself lies at an altitude between approx. 400 m above sea level (NHN) and 435 m above sea level. In the north-west of the Keulas district in the Keula Forest, the highest point of the Dün is 522.3 m above sea level . The lowest point is on the eastern boundary of the district at approx. 384 m above sea level.

The following places or districts border the district - starting clockwise in the west: Zaunröden (district of Dünwald ), Deuna , Vollenborn , Rehungen (district of Sollstedt ), Holzthaleben (district of Helbedündorf) and Menteroda with the districts of Menteroda and Kleinkeula .
history
552 people live in the place that was first mentioned in a document on January 18, 967. On the west side of Keula are the remains of a Keula moated castle . It was used to monitor and control the road across the dune. In 1772 and 1811 parts of the castle were demolished. The south wing, parts of the moat, cellar and remains of the outer wall have been preserved from the complex. Keula was sold several times around 1134-1348. The Counts of Schwarzburg needed money. In 1356 they were again owners. The predominantly agricultural town built a church tower in 1586 , which is still present at the present church . In 1637 and 1738, conflagrations destroyed the work of many. The place received market rights in 1793 . In 1859 the road to Mühlhausen was built. In 1881 there was a telephone between Ebeleben and Keula. In 1901 the Greußen-Ebeleben-Keula railway connection was built, which is now idle. In 1930 there were 54 commercial and craft businesses. Today the station broadcasts Keula for Deutsche Telekom AG . The Agrar GmbH Keula since 1991 successor operation of LPG Keula and is now a pure cash crop farm. Since 2011, the company has belonged to the nordagrar group from Schleswig-Holstein together with three other neighboring companies.
Culture and sights
To the north-west of the village is the 297.2 hectare nature reserve Keulaer Wald. The church of St. Trinitatis was built in the 17th century using older components.
