history

The place was first mentioned on March 30, 1302. The village also had several names before this was established. The village has always been and has been characterized by agriculture. In 1845–1855, crop failures and subsequent poverty were responsible for the brain drain to America. The number of people did not decrease, however, as people moved up from other poorer areas.

The farmers of the village, which was in the Soviet Zone and then in the GDR , also had to take part in the collectivization of agriculture. After the political change they found new forms of property, which is evident in Keula . The community of Helbedündorf was founded on November 25, 1993 through the merger of the villages Keula, Friedrichsrode, Holzthaleben and Großbrüchter and the following communities Toba and Kleinbrüchter with Peukendorf in 1995.

In 1991, 21 graves from the 10./11. Century found. Glass beads, amber, temple rings and spores were very rare. The finds are probably of Slavic origin, in the Germanic area.

The office of Keula from the Principality of Schwarzburg-Rudolstadt has long been responsible for the administration of the towns.

traffic

The Kleinbrüchter station was on the Greußen – Keula railway line , which has since been closed .
