Zaunröden is a district of the municipality of Dünwald in the Unstrut-Hainich district in Thuringia .

location

Zaunröden is located in the north of the Unstrut-Hainich district directly on the boundary with the Kyffhäuserkreis and the Eichsfeld district on a higher area of ​​the Dün on predominantly shell limestone weathered soils . The location is about 13 kilometers northeast of Mühlhausen and is surrounded by forests, the forests of Deuna begin to the north and the Keula Forest to the east . With the provincial road 1032 the village has a connection to Hüpstedt and Keula .

history

The village was first mentioned in documents in 1378. The place belonged to the Electoral Saxon Office Langensalza until 1815 and was an exclave between the Electoral Mainz Eichsfeld and the subordinate rule of the Principality of Schwarzburg-Sondershausen . After its cession to Prussia, Zaunröden belonged to the district of Worbis in the province of Saxony from 1816 to 1944 .

From 1952 to 1994 the place belonged to the district of Sondershausen and was added to the Unstrut-Hainich district during the district reform of Thuringia in 1994 as the only municipality in the district of Sondershausen. On January 1, 1994, the communities of Beberstedt , Hüpstedt and Zaunröden merged to form the new community of Dünwald. The district has 120 inhabitants.
