Torquay is a small town in Australia with a population of around 13,000 in the state of Victoria . It is the capital of the Local Administrative Area (LGA) Surf Coast Shire . The place is known as the starting point of the Great Ocean Road and as the center of the Australian surfing industry.

Originally founded as "Spring Creek", the place was renamed in 1892 after the English seaside resort of the same name.

Companies like Rip Curl or Quiksilver were founded in Torquay and some of them still have their headquarters there. World-famous surfing areas such as Jan Juc and Bells Beach are in the immediate vicinity of the village .
