Shot on goal

In sports in which goals are played ( soccer , handball , hockey , ice hockey, etc.), a goal shot is a successful or intended attempt to accommodate the object in question (e.g. the puck in ice hockey ) in the opponent's goal.

An offensive tactic of a team (see e.g. tactics (football) ) aims to create as many or safe opportunities as possible for a shot on goal; a defensive tactic tries to prevent the opposing team from developing opportunities for a shot on goal.

In football , shots on goal (that go towards the goal) are often distinguished from missed shots (that miss the goal even if they are distracted by another player). In the English-speaking world, this distinction is clearer because the statistics there always distinguish between “shots on goal / target” and “shots wide”. Head butts, which are not shots in the strict sense , also count as shots on goal.

In statistical analyzes, the number of shots on goal is a measure of a team's aggressiveness.
