Torsten-Jörn Klein

Torsten-Jörn Klein (born February 5, 1964 in Berlin ) is a German manager, investor and sports official.

Career

After studying business administration and doing a doctorate at the Berlin School of Economics , Klein began his professional career as an assistant to the management at the Bertelsmann Book Club and continued his career until 1997 with various management positions in marketing, purchasing and sales, most recently as head of sales for all 300 Bertelsmann Club Branches continued. In 1998 he moved to the Berliner Zeitung as publishing director , and from 2000 onwards, as managing director of the Berliner Verlag , Klein headed all of Gruner + Jahr's newspaper activities in Berlin (Berliner Zeitung, Berliner Kurier , BerlinOnline / Berlin.de, Berliner Zeitungsdruck, Berliner Abendblatt ). In 2004 he was appointed to the Management Board of Gruner + Jahr AG & Co KG and was initially responsible for parts of the international business and, since 2009, as Foreign Director for all international activities of the group in over 30 countries. On April 10, 2013 it was announced that Klein would be leaving Gruner + Jahr at the end of the year. Klein has been investing in digital startups since the beginning of 2014 and has built up a portfolio of investments in the areas of e-commerce, online couponing and SEO optimization, the development of which he has supported. In 2018, Klein took part in the Hammerbrooklyn digital campus in the Hammerbrook district of Hamburg.

Other functions

Klein was a member of the board of trustees of the International Journalists Program (IJP), was a member of the board of trustees of the International Academy of Journalism (INTAJOUR) and was a member of the board of the World Association of Magazine Publishers FIPP .

He is also chairman of the supervisory board of the Berlin soccer club Hertha BSC and of the board of trustees of the German Olympic Society .
